Detection of Similar Terrorist Events

چکیده
Event counting is significant when it allows us to discover and represent implicit knowledge. We realize that a particular event happens somewhere not just by mere chance, it is unlikely to be what we call as accidental event. E.g. the number of violent attacks and terrorist acts can give the measure of the safety for a given country and can help us to predict where and/or when similar events are likely to happen next time. This work proposes an approach for detecting terrorist events sharing common details, available from open datasets, with the aim of merging their descriptions and counting them exactly. Events are aggregated according to a space-timetextual similarity function.

متن کاملMolecular recognition of biowarfare agents using micromechanical sensors.
Recent terrorist events have demonstrated that an urgent and widespread need exists for the development of novel sensors for threat detection, especially biowarfare agents. The advent of inexpensive, mass-produced microcantilever sensors promises to bring about a revolution in detection of terrorist threats. Extremely sensitive and highly selective sensors can be developed for using a microcant...
متن کاملDetection of access to terror-related Web sites using an Advanced Terror Detection System (ATDS)
Terrorist groups use the Web as their infrastructure for various purposes. One example is the forming of new local cells that may later become active and perform acts of terror. The Advanced Terrorist Detection System (ATDS), is aimed at tracking down online access to abnormal content, which may include terrorist-generated sites, by analyzing the content of information accessed by the Web users...
متن کاملEstimating the historical and future probabilities of large terrorist events
Quantities with right-skewed distributions are ubiquitous in complex social systems, including political conflict, economics and social networks, and these systems sometimes produce extremely large events. For instance, the 9/11 terrorist events produced nearly 3000 fatalities, nearly six times more than the next largest event. But, was this enormous loss of life statistically unlikely given mo...
متن کاملA Data Fusion Approach to Indications and Warnings of Terrorist Attacks
Indications and Warning (I&W) of terrorist attacks, particularly IED attacks, require detection of networks of agents and patterns of behavior. Social Network Analysis tries to detect a network; activity analysis tries to detect anomalous activities. This work builds on both to detect elements of an activity model of terrorist attack activity – the agents, resources, networks, and behaviors. Th...
